Family Day at The Underline

Nov 18, 2023
2:00 pm

Family Day returns at The Underline with plenty of fun for the community with 7 monthly occurrences in October, November, January, February, March, April, and May!

Bring your family for this special day of exploration and learning. Discover art and science at a STEAM activity sponsored by The Batchelor Foundation, an exciting art program by Bakehouse Art Complex supported by The Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation, and an exploration of our Climate Champs curriculum, sponsored by the Peacock Foundation. Plus, take home some cookies from Girl Scouts of Tropical South Florida!

We’ll also have our iconic giant building blocks!

November’s themes: gratitude, appreciation, thankfulness, family, and friends

  • Express your appreciation and love for friends and family by making your very own gratitude tree with artist Maria Theresa Barbist! Participants will write the names of their loved ones and the qualities they appreciate in them on paper leaves and heart-shaped cutouts, which will be used to decorate the trunk and branches of their tree.
  • Get ready for some gobble-tastic fun with artist Carolina Casusol. Participants will design their very own festive headbands adorned with colorful feathers, cute turkey faces, and messages of thankfulness.
  • Using old magazines and other printed materials, artist Gabriela Gamboa guides participants in the creation of collages. Participants will create messages of appreciation, gratitude, and love through color schemes and the combination of images and words.
  • Join artist Pati Monclus in making drawings of the people, places, and things you love using Styrofoam. Using markers, participants will draw on the Styrofoam and press it against a damp piece of paper. The ink from the markers will be absorbed and transferred to the paper creating an amazing work of art.
  • Artist Mateo Serna Zapata will be photographing the Family Day fun!
