2014 was an exciting, fast-paced, fantastic year. With the help of many, we gained a lot of momentum and got so much accomplished. Here’s a brief recap of what happened with The Underline in 2014 …. and a peek into the what’s coming in 2015.
The Underline Achievements 2014
January – Incorporated as non-profit organization
January-May – University of Miami School of Architecture studio class studied the MPath’s potential as a linear park and urban trail
February – Named and branded as The GreenLink
April-May – Endorsements from the Cities of Miami, Coral Gables, South Miami, and Village of Pinecrest
June-July – APA-sponsored exhibit at MCAD, with opening reception, group bike ride and panel discussion
September – Rebrand as The Underline
Fall – UM MBA’s study commercial property value increases when The Underline is completed
Fall – Funding secured for master plan from the Cities of Miami, Coral Gables, South Miami and the Knight Foundation, Miami Foundation, Health Foundation of South Florida and the Mitchell Wolfson Foundation
September – November – HistoryMiami, The Underline: Make It Yours exhibition
October 2014 – Endorsement from UM President Donna Shalala
November 2014 – Master Plan Request for Qualifications issued and Miami-Dade County endorsement
December – LoveBike contest
What to look for in 2015!
January 12-15 – ThinkBike 2015 at HistoryMiami
February 2 – Master plan design plan design team selected
February 14-21 – Vizcaya Metrorail station lighting exhibition
February 14 – Visit the Valentine’s Day chocolate pop up shop at Vizcaya Metrorail station
February 21 – Museum of Science Innovation Weekend
March 5-May 31 – Coral Gables Museum exhibition
March 21 – Bike 305 bike ride and events
March – June – Public engagement meetings
July – Master plan published
November – WHEELS event and demonstration projects at Brickell and UM stations
